Dr. Renée Branch Canady, CEO of the MPHI, was presented the 2024 Sharon Parks Award from the Michigan League of Public Policy (MLPP). She was recognized for her outstanding efforts in public health and her commitment to diminishing racial health disparities.

The Sharon Parks Award is presented to individuals who advance the well-being of vulnerable Michigan residents and display outstanding achievement in leadership, advocacy, or research. The prestigious award was created in 2010 by the Michigan League of Public Policy’s Board of Directors and named in honor of former CEO Sharon Parks.

Dr. Canady has served as CEO of MPHI since 2014, leading the Institute in efforts to promote equity in healthcare and advance the well-being of Michigan residents and beyond. Her recently published book “Room at the Table: A Leader’s Guide to Advancing Health Equity and Justice,” shares her experiences with racial prejudice and guides readers through the principles of equity in public health and beyond. She has proven herself as a strong thought leader in the public health industry. Her achievements in advancing the well-being and health of people everywhere earned her this distinguished honor from the Michigan League of Public Policy.

Dr. Canady was presented the award during the Michigan League of Public Policy’s 2024 Public Policy Forum. The annual forum discusses policies for creating an economy based on racial equity, with the aim of promoting economic justice in Michigan. The forum supports the organization’s mission to advocate for policies that undo historic and systemic racial and economic inequities in Michigan.
