Overview

The Parent Leadership in Home Visiting Storytelling Project explored the development of Michigan’s parent leadership system and the experience of parent leaders who participated in the Statewide Parent Leaders in Home Visiting group. Interviews with state and local leaders described the story of how parent leadership was developed in Michigan and where there is room to improve and expand parent leadership. Additionally, through a storytelling process, parent leaders discussed the impacts that participating in the group had on them as individuals and on making changes in state and local systems. Parent leaders also discussed what components of the group helped them on their leadership journey and what would help improve the current parent leadership system. This project was conducted with funding from Michigan’s Preschool Development Grant, as were several other projects designed to explore and strengthen Michigan’s home visiting system. For more information on the project, full reports and a Parent Leadership Storytelling Video can be found at https://www.michigan.gov/homevisiting/local-leadership-groups.
