Michigan Health Equity Summit

WHAT: The MHA Keystone Center has partnered with the Michigan Public Health Institute and the Michigan State University Institute for Health Policy to host a Health Equity Summit in Michigan. This summit aims to provide an update of state healthcare disparity data, explore how Michigan hospitals can continue to expand upon their work in eliminating disparities and highlight the work that select hospitals are doing to advance health equity for all Michiganders. The keynote speaker, Dr. Kevin Ahmaad Jenkins, is a renowned advocate against racism and its effect on public health and breaking the social stigmas relating to racial injustice in healthcare. Dr. Jenkins will use his knowledge and skills to lead the summit discussion.

WHO: This program is designed for patient safety officers, quality improvement personnel, directors of patient experience or compliance, executive and clinical leaders, and health equity staff members.

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate effective research intervention strategies for diverse populations.
  • Develop and leverage biofeedback data to plan and evaluate your organization’s health equity initiatives.
  • Determine how to anatomize the institutional and individual actors in health equity partnership development.
  • Create partnership strategies with historically minority serving colleges, universities, and professional organizations.
  • Discuss strategies hospitals can implement to improve the quality and quantity of REaL, SOGI and SDoH patient demographic data and evaluate equity focused metrics.
  • Explore how Michigan hospitals can continue to expand upon their work in eliminating disparities and highlight the work that select hospitals are doing to advance health equity in their communities.
  • Share lessons learned about the broader impact of utilizing expanded sex and gender fields including implications for patient experience, clinical decision making and legal/billing/reporting requirements.
  • Review upcoming CMS regulations related to health equity in acute care.
