MPHI staff will present at the Michigan Association for Local Public Health’s (MALPH) Michigan Premier Public Health Conference on October 28-29, 2025, at the Van Dyk Mortgage Event Center in Muskegon. The annual event brings together community partners, higher education institutions, and public health organizations from across the state, including the Michigan Public Health Association, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), local health departments, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and many others.
Several MPHI subject matter experts will facilitate a workshop entitled “Partnering With the Community for Public Health Improvement.” The workshop will encourage participants to explore community engagement, discuss methods and considerations for data collection, and identify ways to navigate barriers to engagement.
MPHI staff will also present a session on “Empowering Change: Innovative Strategies for a Resilient Public Health Workforce.” In this presentation, participants will learn about innovative workplace training, capacity building, leadership development strategies, leveraging technology and ethical AI for virtual learning, strengthening interdisciplinary partnerships, and sustainable pipelines for talent recruitment and retention.
Dr. Paul Elam, Chief Strategy Officer, will participate in a panel discussion alongside colleagues from MDHHS, Detroit Health Department, and Detroit Life is Valuable Everyday, on “Community Violence Intervention (CVI) as a Public Health and Public Safety Strategy for Michigan Communities.” The panel will explore the ways in which CVI reduces violence-related trauma and improves community well-being and public health and safety. Panelists will draw from experience and evidence from Michigan-based violence prevention programs; Advance Peace, DLIVE, and Ceasefire Detroit.
