Hometown Hero AwardsMichigan Public Health Institute and its fellow partners from the Michigan Public Health Week Partnership are currently accepting nominations for the 2026 Hometown Health Hero award. Nominations will be accepted through 5:00 pm, December 19, 2025.

The Hometown Health Hero award recognizes individuals and/or organizations that have made significant and measurable contributions to preserve and/or improve the health of their community. The award is presented once every year; the 2026 winner will be recognized on March 18, 2026.

“Public health is built on the dedication of individuals and organizations working tirelessly to improve the well-being of their communities,” said Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director. “These annual public health awards recognize those who go above and beyond to create a healthier Michigan for all. Their passion and commitment inspire us to continue striving for a future where every Michigan resident has the opportunity to thrive.”

If you know someone who inspires you with their commitment to their community and the health and well-being of all, the Michigan Public Health Week Partnership encourages you to submit a nomination. To be nominated, an individual does not have to be employed in Public Health; contributing to the health of their community is all that is required. If the individual is a public health professional, the nomination must describe how their efforts go above and beyond the responsibilities of their paid position.
