Governor Whitmer issued a proclamation that declared August Home Visiting Month for the fifth year in a row. The proclamation named MPHI as one of the partners in the system’s success.
“Whereas, state and local partnerships including but not limited to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, Center for Quality Family Support, Michigan Public Health Institute, Head Start, Intermediate School Districts, Local Health Departments, and other public and private organizations collaborate to assess, grow and improve home visiting services, supporting families from prenatal through school entry,” the proclamation read.
MPHI’s Center for Healthy Communities (CHC) plays a primary role in Michigan’s home visiting programs, providing essential support to partners at the state as well as the Local Implementing Agencies who provide direct service to families all over Michigan. CHC provides services such as continuous quality improvement, evaluation, data collection and analysis, professional development coordination, training, representation on leadership groups, quality assurance, and needs assessments.
In 2023, 19,551 families were served by one of the 8 home visiting models operating in Michigan. When home visiting is implemented, research has demonstrated impacts on:
- Child development and school readiness.
- Child health.
- Family economic self-sufficiency.
- Linkages and referrals.
- Maternal health.
- Positive parenting practices.
- Reductions in child maltreatment.
- Reductions in juvenile delinquency, family violence and crime.
MPHI is grateful for the support and recognition from the state as we continue to provide services that improve the health and wellbeing of all children and families.
