As the article states, “Room at the Table” covers complex topics of diversity, equity and inclusion. Despite the complexity of the topics, Dr. Canady guides readers step-by-step. She draws upon her personal experiences to encourage readers to form a connection and understanding of health equity.

“‘Room at the Table’ teaches you the principles of equity so that you can better understand yourself, understand others and make a lasting difference in this world,” Dr. Canady said.

Issues of diversity, equity and inclusion are experiencing an increase in scrutiny across the nation and are shrouded in misinformation. Dr. Canady’s goal is to clear up some of the misunderstandings surrounding public health and equity. The book addresses the principles of equity in the hope that readers may learn to acknowledge and accept differences. In the words of Dr. Canady, “the road to unity is through diversity.”

Lansing City Pulse called the book “something that has been desperately needed in understanding the complex historiography of diversity, equity and inclusion issues, especially health equity.”
